Syrian Minister of Energy Mohammad al-Bashir announced on May 9, 2025, a bilateral agreement with Turkey to supply Syria with natural gas.

In a statement posted on the social media platform X, Minister al-Bashir said he reached an agreement with his Turkish counterpart, Alparslan Bayraktar, to deliver “6 million cubic meters of natural gas per day to Syria.”

He added that the gas will be delivered “via the Kilis–Aleppo transmission line, contributing to longer electricity supply hours and an overall improvement in Syria’s energy sector.”

For his part, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar confirmed the agreement, announcing Turkey's plans to export 6 million cubic meters of gas daily to Syria.

According to the Turkish state-run Anadolu Agency, Bayraktar stated that “the planned gas exports, expected to total 2 billion cubic meters annually, will be used to generate electricity inside Syria.”

He also noted that Syrian authorities have begun infrastructure work on the pipeline, which will transport gas from Turkey’s Kilis province to the city of Aleppo, where it will help power the local electricity plant.

Bayraktar further revealed that, in addition to natural gas, Turkey has begun supplying Aleppo with electricity. “Currently, the city is receiving about 200 megawatts of electricity from Turkey,” he said.
