Rami Abdel Rahman to "Welat TV": Reveals Suwayda Casualty Figures, Warns of Escalating Violence
Welat TV – Erbil
The Director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Rami Abdel Rahman, stressed that “preventing Syrian bloodshed is paramount,” adding that “Suwayda’s security is not an enemy of Damascus or its supporters,” and noting that “none of Syria’s communities wants to see the country divided.”
Speaking to Welat TV on Monday, 14 July 2025, Abdel Rahman said: “Large numbers of Ministry of Defense fighters and their supporters have massed in Suwayda, and it is abnormal to declare general mobilization after every political disagreement.”
He added: “There have been over 400 killed and wounded on both sides in 36 hours, with the death toll exceeding 100.” Abdel Rahman continued: “We hope reason will prevail and the killing in Suwayda will stop.
Weapons should be used to defend Syrian territory and confront external enemies.” He also noted that the international community is working to create a new Middle East and does not care about humanity, with its priority being “serving the interests of states on Syrian soil.”
He added: “Israel cares only about its own interests and does not care about the Druze community. It has claimed to be a protector of the region, but it has been shown to be lying.”
He concluded: “American envoy Tom Barrack is the greatest threat to Syria. He is complicit in today’s bloodshed, and we fear the potential for new strife tomorrow in the areas east of the Euphrates.”
