Under the Patronage of the Barzani Charity Foundation, a New Book Documenting Afrin’s Musical Heritage is Launched

The city of Afrin hosted on Friday the launch event of the book “Candles of Afrin’s Musical Heritage” by Kurdish author Nidal Youssef.
The ceremony was held under the patronage of the Barzani Charity Foundation and attended by a distinguished group of intellectuals, cultural enthusiasts, representatives of political bodies, public figures, and residents of Afrin.
Organizers expressed their gratitude to the Barzani Charity Foundation for its continuous support of cultural initiatives, emphasizing the importance of such backing in enriching the cultural landscape and highlighting the region’s local heritage.
During the event, the book’s content was presented, along with a discussion on the history of Kurdish cultural and musical movements in Afrin.
The 400-page book explores Kurdish art and profiles generations of artists and musicians from the region.
The book consists of two parts: The first in Arabic and the second in Kurdish, translated by Dr. Mohammed Ali Abdo. Author Nidal Youssef conveyed his appreciation to the organizers and sponsors, noting that he dedicates his work to all Kurds and affirming his commitment to documenting Afrin’s Kurdish heritage, culture, and artistic legacy.
Speaking to Welat TV, one of the writers stressed that such works play a vital role in preserving the traditions, history, and cultural identity of the region, protecting them from distortion and disappearance.
The event concluded with the distribution of copies of the book to attendees and participants.
Nidal Youssef, born in 1972 in the village of “Chaqale Jume” in the Jinderes town of Afrin, has published eight books to date.
