The Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Abdul Qadir al-Hasriya, issued two decisions on Monday approving the exchange of specific denominations of old Syrian currency and extending the exchange deadline by 60 days, effective April 1, 2026.
The first decision stipulates the replacement of the following denominations from all previous issues: 500 Syrian pounds, 200 Syrian pounds, 100 Syrian pounds, and 50 Syrian pounds, within the legally specified timeframe.
The second decision extends the exchange period, in accordance with applicable regulations, for an additional 60 days starting from April 1, 2026.
The decision further states that, in applying its provisions, the number of exchanged banknotes from any specified denomination must not be less than 100 notes of the same category.
The currency exchange process began on January 1 and is set to continue for 90 days, subject to extension. Under the current framework, every 100 Syrian pounds of the old currency is equivalent to one Syrian pound of the new currency.
