NATO Announces Broad Support for Campaign Against Iran

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has announced “broad support” for the campaign led by U.S. President Donald Trump against Iran, despite public criticism voiced by some European leaders.

Speaking to the American outlet Newsmax on Wednesday evening, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that Trump’s campaign targeting Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities enjoys wide backing among alliance members.

Rutte clarified that NATO itself is not directly participating in the military operation, but noted that member states broadly support the U.S. effort to dismantle Tehran’s nuclear and missile programs.

He added that European allies harbor serious security concerns regarding Tehran, referring to what he described as threats and assassination attempts linked to the Iranian regime.

Support for Regional Partners

Rutte pointed to an incident involving a missile launched from Iran toward Turkey, a NATO member and part of the alliance’s collective defense system. He noted that the missile could potentially have affected U.S. interests inside Turkey.

Regarding Iranian attacks across the region, the NATO chief stressed that the alliance stands with its partners in the Middle East. He expressed solidarity against what he described as indiscriminate attacks on the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and other countries in the region.

French Approval for U.S. Military Access

In a related development, the French military announced on Thursday that it had authorized U.S. aircraft to use certain French bases in the Middle East during the ongoing war being waged by the United States and Israel against Iran.

A spokesperson for the French General Staff told France Press Agency that, within the framework of relations with Washington, U.S. aircraft were temporarily permitted to be stationed at French bases in the region. The U.S.-Israeli war against Iran has now entered its sixth day, during which Iranian infrastructure, vital facilities, and several commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have reportedly been targeted. In response, Iran has launched missile attacks against neighboring countries, particularly in the Persian Gulf region, aiming to strike U.S. interests and those of its allies, according to the report.
