Nechirvan Barzani and Macron Stress Need to Prevent Expansion of Regional Conflicts

Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, received a phone call on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from Emmanuel Macron, President of France, to discuss the latest developments in the region.
According to the Kurdistan Region Presidency, the two leaders exchanged views on the current situation and the consequences of the ongoing war, expressing deep concern over the risks of increasing complications.
They agreed on the importance of intensifying international efforts to prevent the expansion of conflicts, with the aim of restoring peace and security for the peoples of the region.
In another part of the call, the two sides discussed relations between France, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region, as well as ways to continue strengthening cooperation.
They reaffirmed their commitment to further developing the longstanding friendship and cooperation between them across various fields.
For his part, Nechirvan Barzani expressed his gratitude for the leading role played by Macron and France in supporting the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, particularly through diplomatic efforts aimed at keeping the region away from the risks of war and escalating tensions.
