UAE Condemns Attack on Its Consulate in Erbil, Calls for Investigation

The United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the drone attack targeting its consulate in the Kurdistan Region, describing it as a treacherous terrorist act. The strike targeted the UAE Consulate in Erbil for the second time within a week, injuring two security personnel and causing damage to the consulate building.
In a statement issued on Saturday, March 14, 2026, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that targeting diplomatic missions constitutes a flagrant violation of international norms and laws, particularly the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which guarantees full protection and immunity for diplomatic premises and staff.
The UAE called on the governments of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to investigate the circumstances of the attack, identify those responsible, and ensure they are held accountable.
The ministry reiterated the UAE’s categorical rejection of such attacks aimed at destabilizing security and stability, emphasizing the importance of protecting diplomatic missions and their personnel in accordance with international laws and conventions.
Qatar Condemns the Attack
In a related development, Qatar also condemned the attack on the UAE Consulate in the Kurdistan Region, describing it as an unacceptable act and a serious violation of international norms protecting diplomatic missions.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that targeting diplomatic facilities represents a clear breach of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and constitutes a dangerous escalation threatening the safety of diplomatic personnel and undermining internationally recognized diplomatic practices.
Qatar reaffirmed its firm rejection of all acts of violence and terrorism targeting diplomatic missions, expressing solidarity with the UAE and support for efforts aimed at strengthening security and stability in Iraq and the wider region.
