Presidential Envoy Affirms Syrian State’s Commitment to Closing the “SDF File”

Ziad Al-Ayesh, the presidential envoy tasked with overseeing the implementation of the January 29 agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces, confirmed the Syrian government’s commitment to fully resolving the “SDF file” and advancing a comprehensive national integration process.

In a statement on Saturday, March 14, 2026, Al-Ayesh said the Syrian Arab Republic is working to finalize the issue of the SDF and detainees affiliated with the group in order to move forward with a nationwide integration process aimed at stabilizing the country, according to the Hasaka Media Directorate.

Political Detainees

Al-Ayesh stated that the government is coordinating with the leadership of the SDF to release all political detainees and prisoners of conscience who were arrested in connection with the Syrian Revolution. He emphasized that this approach reflects the state’s determination to close the chapter of the past and strengthen justice and coexistence among all components of Syrian society.

Prisoner Exchange

The presidential envoy also announced that the government will soon begin releasing the second batch of detainees who had been arrested in previous periods.

Earlier, on March 10, a prisoner exchange involving 200 detainees took place in Hasaka between the Syrian government and the SDF, under the supervision of the presidential team responsible for implementing the January 29 agreement.

Al-Ayesh added that the Syrian state intends to take control of prisons previously managed by the SDF and transfer their administration to the Syrian Ministry of Interior to ensure proper implementation of justice.

It is worth noting that the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces announced on January 29 that they had reached a comprehensive ceasefire agreement, paving the way for the gradual integration of military forces and administrative institutions into the Syrian state framework.
