J. D. Vance announced the failure to reach an agreement with Iran following negotiations held in Islamabad.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, April 12, 2026, Vance said the U.S. negotiating team would leave Pakistan after failing to secure a deal with Iran following 21 hours of talks.

He noted that Iran had chosen not to accept U.S. conditions, including refraining from developing nuclear weapons, adding: “The Iranians must understand that the offer we presented is final, and we will not present another.”

Vance added: “The bad news is that we did not reach an agreement, and I believe this is much worse news for Iran than it is for the United States.”

The U.S. and Iranian delegations had arrived in Islamabad on Saturday to hold peace talks following the announcement of a two-week ceasefire agreement.
