The United States military has announced the implementation of a comprehensive blockade on Iranian ports, stating that the operation was fully enforced within 36 hours of its initiation.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander Admiral Brad Cooper said that “a complete blockade has been imposed on Iranian ports as part of efforts by U.S. forces to maintain maritime superiority in the Middle East.”
The statement clarified that U.S. forces have effectively halted all maritime economic trade to and from Iran, noting that nearly 90 percent of Iran’s economy relies on international trade conducted by sea.
U.S. President Donald Trump had earlier announced the decision to impose the blockade following the collapse of negotiations held in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad.
