The Syrian Yezidi Council extended its congratulations to followers of the Yazidi faith in Syria and worldwide in a statement issued on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, on the occasion of the Yezidi New Year (the first Wednesday of April), expressing hope that the holiday will bring goodness, peace, and hope despite ongoing challenges.

Full Statement:

Brothers and sisters of the Yezidi faith in Syria and around the world,

Brothers and sisters of our Kurdish people and all Syrians,

On the occasion of the Yezidi New Year (the first Wednesday of 1 April 2026), the Syrian Yezidi Council extends its warmest congratulations and sincere best wishes, hoping that this holiday brings with it hope, peace and good for our people, and that it serves as an occasion of renewal and light despite all difficulties.

We mark this occasion this year amid highly complex conditions, as our region is experiencing a fierce war. Syria, its land and people, has not yet recovered, and millions of its sons remain either refugees or internally displaced, both inside and outside the country, suffering from the humanitarian and social repercussions of the conflict.

Based on our responsibility, we call on all Kurdish parties in Syria to preserve unity of ranks and unity of word, and to act in a spirit of understanding and solidarity in a way that serves the interests of our people and their just cause. We also appeal to our Yazidi brothers and sisters, in light of the current circumstances, to limit the observance of holiday rituals to homes or within nature, and to avoid large and central gatherings, in the interest of public safety.

We affirm that, as we have pledged to you, we will remain committed to our responsibilities, defending the rights of Yezidis in Syria, and working side by side with all components of the Syrian people to build a democratic, pluralistic, and participatory state that guarantees freedom, dignity, and justice for all Syrians.
