The Syrian General Authority for Ports and Customs announced that the Port of Tartous recorded growing maritime and cargo-handling activity during the first four months of the current year, amid measures aimed at simplifying import and export procedures.

According to a statement issued by the authority on Saturday, May 9, 2026, the port received 298 vessels, including 266 cargo ships and 32 maintenance vessels, reflecting a significant increase in commercial and logistical movement through the port.

The total volume of import and export operations exceeded 2.75 million tons, including 2.25 million tons of imported goods and nearly 500,000 tons of exported phosphate, in addition to 20,000 tons of various other materials.

The statement noted that April witnessed the highest level of commercial activity, with 100 vessels entering the port, including 94 cargo ships and six maintenance vessels. Imports during the month reached 720,000 tons, compared to 190,000 tons of exports.

The authority affirmed that the increasing activity at Tartous Port reflects the success of ongoing development plans aimed at facilitating customs procedures and enhancing transit operations, contributing to improving logistical efficiency and attracting additional shipping lines.
