Asaad al-Shaibani: Syria Seeks Peace with Israel, Not Normalization of Relations
Welat TV – Erbil
Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani announced that Syria seeks peace with Israel, not the normalization of relations.
Speaking to EuroNews on the sidelines of the Brussels Conference on Coordination Between the European Union and Syria, held in Brussels, al-Shaibani stated that Israel has threatened Syria’s stability since December 2024 and has targeted military and civilian infrastructure under what he described as “false and unreliable arguments.”
Al-Shaibani also said that Syria seeks peace with Israel, not normalization of relations, emphasizing that peace is based on mutual respect for the security and sovereignty of both sides. He added that normalization cannot take place under military force or provocation.
He called on Israel to withdraw from territories seized after 2024, explaining that Syria has entered into high-level negotiations with Israel, mediated by the United States. “We hope the dialogue will lead to a comprehensive agreement that respects Syria’s sovereignty,” al-Shaibani said.
