A drug smuggling attempt was foiled at the Jdeidet Yabous border crossing between Syria and Lebanon.

The General Authority for Border Crossings and Customs announced that the Customs Directorate at the Jdeidet Yabous border crossing had thwarted an attempt to smuggle narcotic substances.

The authority stated that the shipment included 23 kilograms of hashish and 50 grams of an unidentified substance, concealed inside food containers in a vehicle attempting to cross the border.

The authority added that inspection teams also discovered other substances in the driver’s bag, including Captagon pills.

Although more than a year and a half has passed since the fall of the Assad regime, the drug trade in Syria continues and poses a threat to society and neighboring countries.
