Syria Closes Southern Air Corridors, Temporarily Delays Returning Pilgrims’ Flights

The Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport has announced the temporary closure of the country’s southern air corridors for a period of 12 hours, effective from 11:00 p.m. on Sunday until 11:00 a.m. on Monday.

In a statement published through its official channels on Sunday, June 7, 2026, the authority said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure following a comprehensive technical assessment and in coordination with the relevant authorities, with the aim of ensuring the safety of air navigation and flight operations in accordance with internationally recognized standards.

The authority explained that the measure comes amid developments related to the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, following an exchange of missile fire between the two sides on Sunday evening.

In a related development, Syria’s Hajj and Umrah Directorate announced the postponement of all flights scheduled for Monday, June 8, 2026, from Medina to Damascus and Aleppo airports until further notice, citing the security situation in the region.

The authorities indicated that further updates regarding the resumption of air traffic and pilgrims’ return flights would be issued in line with developments on the ground and ongoing safety assessments.
