Trump: Ahmad al-Sharaa Would Be Happy to Help Us Strike Hezbollah in Lebanon

U.S. President Donald Trump affirmed his support for Israel carrying out further strikes, which he described as “surgical,” against “Hezbollah,” while emphasizing his desire to improve conditions in Lebanon and make Israeli attacks more precise.

In remarks reported on Sunday, June 7, 2026, Trump said he maintains a good relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, noting that they differ on certain issues. He added that the United States could help make military operations more precise or seek assistance from Syria, stating that Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa "would be happy to help."

These remarks come amid ongoing tensions on the Lebanese front following an Israeli airstrike targeting the southern suburbs of Beirut and the continued exchange of attacks between Israel and Hezbollah.

In the same context, Axios reported that Israel informed the U.S. administration that Hezbollah’s attacks on northern Israel constitute a violation of the ceasefire and provide justification for targeting Beirut, noting that Washington was informed in advance of the recent strike on the southern suburbs.

These developments coincide with stalled efforts to reinforce the ceasefire and reduce tensions, amid concerns that the confrontation between the two sides could further escalate.
