U.S. Launches Strikes on Iranian Targets Following Attack on Oil Tanker Near Strait of Hormuz

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had carried out additional strikes against multiple targets inside Iran following a drone attack on an oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement issued on Sunday, June 28, CENTCOM said the strikes were conducted under the direction of the Commander-in-Chief, adding that Iran had been given an opportunity to comply with the ceasefire agreement following previous U.S. strikes but "chose not to do so."

According to the statement, Iranian forces launched a one-way attack drone that struck the Panama-flagged oil tanker Keiko while it was sailing near the Strait of Hormuz carrying more than two million barrels of crude oil.

CENTCOM said the U.S. strikes targeted Iranian military surveillance infrastructure, communications systems, air defense sites, drone storage facilities, and naval mine-laying capabilities.

The command also confirmed that commercial shipping continues to transit the Strait of Hormuz, while U.S. forces remain at a high state of alert and combat readiness.
