Escalation Between the U.S. and Iran... Bahrain and Kuwait Call for an Urgent Security Council Meeting

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed today, Sunday, that U.S. fighter jets targeted Iranian military sites, accusing Tehran of violating the ceasefire agreement, while Bahrain and Kuwait condemned the Iranian attacks that targeted their territories.

In a post on “Truth Social” on Sunday, June 28, 2026, Trump said the United States had carried out airstrikes on Iranian missile and drone storage sites, as well as coastal radar sites, in response to what he described as Iran’s violation of the ceasefire agreement.

U.S. Warning

Trump warned that Iran “will cease to exist” if the United States decides to escalate its military operations, adding: “There may come a time when we are unable to act rationally and are forced to complete the mission we began with military success,” noting that if that happens, “Iran will not remain standing.”

Continued Attacks

For its part, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced today that its forces carried out new strikes following an attack on a Panamanian-flagged tanker by an Iranian drone, confirming that the strikes were in response to Iran’s ongoing attacks against commercial shipping.

Gulf Condemnation

In the same vein, the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the Iranian attacks that targeted its territory with a number of ballistic missiles and drones, calling for an urgent session of the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities and hold those responsible for the attacks accountable.

For its part, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the repeated Iranian attacks on the country early this morning, carried out using two ballistic missiles. It considered this a “flagrant violation of Kuwaiti sovereignty,” a direct threat to the country’s security, and a clear breach of international law and the United Nations Charter.

Iran Threatens Retaliation

In response, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced in a statement today that its naval and air forces “delivered a decisive response to the recent U.S. violations,” affirming that the handling of violating vessels would be “stricter than ever before” and stressing that Tehran would respond forcefully to any “new U.S. violation,” according to the Iranian Mehr News Agency.

Fears of Further Escalation

Despite the announcement by Pakistan and Qatar, in a joint statement last Monday, that they had reached a roadmap aimed at concluding a final agreement between the United States and Iran within 60 days—paving the way for a new round of technical talks—tensions and military escalation continue amid regional and international concerns about the repercussions of the war, which has been ongoing since late February, on the security and economy of the region and the world.
