U.S. Central Command Leads Regional Security Dialogue with Participation from Syria

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced it has organized a regional security dialogue bringing together military leaders from 12 countries, including Syria and Lebanon, to discuss developments and ways to strengthen joint defense cooperation.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, CENTCOM said participants discussed regional security, as well as ensuring the free flow of navigation and commerce through the Strait of Hormuz.

The command noted that the dialogue marked the first time military leaders from Syria and Lebanon had participated in a U.S.-led regional defense conference.

CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper said the discussions reaffirmed a shared commitment to regional security and stability amid ongoing tensions affecting the security of the region's vital maritime routes.

Since January, U.S. Central Command and regional partners have operated a new Middle East air defense coordination cell to facilitate the exchange of information and threat warnings, in addition to coordinating responses to emergencies.
