Qatar Announces Full Resumption of Maritime Navigation

Qatar's Ministry of Transport announced the full resumption of maritime navigation activities for all types of vessels and marine transport, effective today.

In a circular published on its official account on the social media platform X on Sunday, July 5, 2026, the ministry called on all relevant parties to comply with applicable maritime regulations and instructions and to ensure that all required safety and security equipment is available on-board vessels before and during voyages in order to guarantee the highest standards of maritime safety and security.

The decision follows a directive issued by Qatar on June 29 recommending the suspension of maritime navigation and marine activities until further notice, with an exception for commercial cargo vessels.

The measure came after Doha announced that one of its citizens had been killed after being struck by shrapnel resulting from what it described as "regional military operations."

The ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran, which began in late February, has caused significant disruption to maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, affecting financial and energy markets, particularly the oil and gas sectors, amid growing concerns over its implications for regional and global security and the economy.
