The White House announced that U.S. President Donald Trump will meet Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa on Wednesday on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in the Turkish capital, Ankara.

Speaking during a press briefing on Sunday, July 5, 2026, White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly said that Trump will depart the White House on Monday evening and is scheduled to arrive in Ankara on Tuesday afternoon, where he will be welcomed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

She added that Trump will hold talks with the Syrian president and later conduct a joint press conference.

The White House official also said that Trump is scheduled to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday to discuss "ways to end the war."

Turkey is hosting a NATO summit for the second time in its history, 22 years after hosting the alliance's Istanbul summit in 2004.
