U.S. Military Announces New Round of Strikes Against Iran

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it carried out a new round of military strikes against targets inside Iran on Monday evening.

In a statement released on Tuesday, July 21, CENTCOM said the strikes targeted Iranian military command centers, naval capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and air defense systems, with the stated objective of degrading Iran's ability to continue attacking commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

CENTCOM added that commercial shipping continues to pass through the strait, noting that since the beginning of May, U.S. forces have helped secure the transit of approximately 900 commercial vessels and the shipment of nearly 450 million barrels of crude oil through the strategic waterway.

The command stressed that U.S. forces "will remain prepared to hold Iran accountable for any unprovoked aggression against civilian mariners seeking to transit the Strait of Hormuz freely."

CENTCOM also released a video that it said shows U.S. forces carrying out the latest precision strikes against Iranian military targets.
