Pentagon: Around 100 U.S. Service Members Injured This Month

The U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) announced that around 100 American service members have sustained injuries of varying severity since July 7, 2026, with 96% of them already returning to active duty.

In a post on X on Monday, July 20, Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said the vast majority of the injuries were mild traumatic brain injuries (concussions), adding that the affected personnel are "determined to return to the fight."

Parnell also said the Department of Defense will provide additional updates on the condition of the injured personnel through its Defense Casualty Analysis System.

The statement came in response to reports published by The New York Times and CNN, which alleged that the U.S. military had withheld the actual number of casualties during recent operations in order to protect service members and prevent Iran from using the information to improve the accuracy of its missile strikes.

Earlier on Monday, the Pentagon announced the completion of a new wave of military strikes against Iran, saying the operations are continuing to degrade Iran's ability to disrupt commercial shipping and maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
