Saudi Arabia Says It Intercepted Drones Launched from Iraq

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Defense announced on Monday, July 27, that its air defenses had destroyed several drones launched from Iraqi territory during the past few hours.

In a statement posted on the social media platform X, Saudi Defense Ministry spokesperson Turki al-Maliki said the air defense forces intercepted and destroyed several drones that attempted to target oil facilities in the Eastern Province and Riyadh, alleging that the "terrorist attacks" originated from Iraq and were carried out by Iran-backed militias.

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned what it described as drone attacks launched by "Iran-backed militias in Iraq" against the Kingdom.

The ministry stressed that Saudi Arabia has the right to safeguard its security and sovereignty and respond to the sources of the attacks, while calling on the Iraqi government to take all necessary measures to prevent its territory from being used as a launching point for such attacks.

Meanwhile, the Jordanian Armed Forces announced that Royal Jordanian Air Force aircraft intercepted and shot down two drones targeting Jordanian territory earlier on Monday, with no casualties or material damage reported.

The ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran, which has continued since late February 2026, remains a major threat to regional and international security. Despite ongoing diplomatic mediation efforts, no agreement has been reached, as U.S. forces continue striking Iranian targets while Iran responds with attacks across the Gulf region.
