Report: Washington and Tel Aviv Planning Joint Strikes on Iranian Energy Facilities

The U.S. and Israel are reportedly preparing joint military strikes targeting Iran's energy infrastructure, with operations that could begin as early as this weekend and include oil refineries and power generation facilities, according to a report by CBS News.

Citing multiple unnamed sources, CBS News reported on Saturday, August 1, that U.S. President Donald Trump has not yet given final authorization for the bombing campaign, despite ongoing coordination between Washington and Israel over the proposed operation.

According to the report, several White House advisers voiced objections to the plan during a Cabinet meeting. The reported discussions come only days after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Washington, where he met with Trump and U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Trump had previously threatened to target Iran's critical infrastructure during the ongoing conflict. Speaking at a Cabinet meeting held on Friday at Camp David, he declared that the United States would strike Iran "with tremendous force."

Separately, The Wall Street Journal cited unnamed U.S. officials as saying that Trump has ordered preparations for a new military operation intended to pressure Iran into surrender, adding that the offensive could begin by the end of the week.

If carried out, the operation would mark the first time since the initial phase of the conflict that Israel has directly participated in strikes targeting Iran's energy infrastructure.
