Trump Postpones Iran Strike Amid Signs of a Deal
Welat TV – Erbil
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States and Israel had agreed to call off imminent strikes on Iran, while stressing that Washington remains prepared to take military action against Tehran on a scale "unseen since World War II."
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2026, Trump said that Iran, along with other countries in the region, had requested a delay of any military action following agreement on the terms of a deal. He said the agreement includes the immediate and full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to Iran's nuclear threat.
Trump stressed that the planned attack has been suspended on the condition that Iran is able to conclude a deal quickly, adding that Israel will also adhere to "this commitment."
On Saturday, U.S. embassies and consulates in several Middle Eastern capitals warned American citizens of the possibility of "unexpected escalation" in the region and urged them to be prepared to leave immediately.
