Syrian Civil Aviation Delegation Discusses Finalizing Arrangements to Take Over and Operate Latakia Airport

A delegation from the Syrian General Authority for Civil Aviation and Air Transport discussed with Russian representatives on Thursday, August 13, 2026, the completion of procedures and arrangements related to taking over Latakia International Airport, as well as the technical and operational aspects of reopening the airport.

According to a statement issued by the authority on Thursday, the delegation arrived at Latakia International Airport and held an expanded meeting with Russian representatives to discuss the requirements of the next phase and the procedures needed to prepare the airport for a service return.

The delegation included Deputy Heads of the Authority Abdul Bari Al-Saj and Sameh Arabi, along with a number of directors of specialized departments.

The delegation also conducted a field tour of various airport facilities to assess the condition of the infrastructure, equipment, and operational systems and identify the necessary technical and operational requirements.

The General Authority for Civil Aviation and Air Transport said it is preparing an integrated plan to rehabilitate Latakia International Airport and raise its operational readiness ahead of the resumption of flights.

The authority took over the management of Latakia International Airport on August 9, as part of efforts to restore the management and operation of civil aviation facilities and return Syrian airports to the national civil aviation system.
