U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had successfully carried out a wave of strikes against Iranian military targets, including facilities belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), while Iran responded with missile attacks targeting Jordan and Bahrain.

Iranian Targets Hit

In a statement posted on X on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, CENTCOM said U.S. forces had targeted IRGC positions, including air defense systems, radar systems, naval assets and facilities, mine-laying capabilities, and communications sites.

Response to Iranian Attacks

CENTCOM said the strikes came in response to recent Iranian attempts to target commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as U.S. military personnel deployed in the region. The command added that more than 50,000 U.S. troops are currently deployed across the Middle East and remain fully prepared to continue operations.

Strikes Near the Strait of Hormuz

Meanwhile, Iran’s official IRNA news agency reported that multiple targets across the country had come under attack, with many of the strikes concentrated near the strategic Strait of Hormuz. It reported that at least 15 people had been killed.

Jordanian Army Intercepts Iranian Missiles

In a related development, the Jordanian Armed Forces announced that the kingdom had come under a missile attack originating from Iranian territory in recent hours.

The official spokesperson for the Jordanian Armed Forces said in a statement on Wednesday that air defense systems had engaged 13 ballistic missiles that entered Jordanian airspace. Ten were intercepted and destroyed, while three others fell in remote areas away from population centers, causing no injuries.

Bahrain Defenses Repel Iranian Air Attack

At the same time, the General Command of the Bahrain Defence Force said on Wednesday that its air defense systems had detected, intercepted, and destroyed a number of Iranian aerial attacks targeting civilians in the kingdom.

In a statement, it added that Iran continues what it described as a “systematic hostile approach” toward Bahrain’s security and stability.

Continuing Escalation

The U.S.-Iran confrontation, which has been ongoing since late February, has entered a new phase of escalation amid regional and international concerns over a possible breakdown in the negotiating process and the potential consequences for regional stability and the global financial system.
