Syrian Presidency Ends File of Security-Suspended Pensions, Orders Payment of Accumulated Dues
Welat TV – Erbil
The Secretary-General of the Syrian Presidency, Abdul Rahman al-A’ma, has issued a decision ordering the resumption of pension payments to civilian retirees whose pensions were suspended for security-related reasons before December 8, 2024.
The Syrian General Organization for Social Insurance said on Monday, September 7, 2026, that the decision provides for the payment of accumulated pension dues to eligible beneficiaries and the resumption of new pension payments for those covered by the decision starting October 1, 2026. All legally mandated increases stipulated in applicable decrees will also be included.
A Significant Step Toward Restoring Retirees’ Rights
Director General of the General Organization for Social Insurance Hassan Khatib said the decision represents a significant step toward restoring rights and ensuring fairness for retirees and eligible beneficiaries. He noted that the decision resulted from joint efforts by the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, and the General Organization for Social Insurance to address the issue of pensions suspended for security-related reasons.
Resumption of Accumulated Payments
Khatib stressed that the organization will proceed with completing the necessary procedures and issuing the required executive instructions to ensure the resumption of pension payments and the disbursement of accumulated dues to those covered by the decision. The decision also allows accumulated pension payments to be received by the beneficiary or a legally authorized representative holding a duly certified general or special power of attorney.
Supporting Retirees
The measure comes as part of efforts to resolve outstanding cases and restore rights to their rightful owners, helping ease the financial burden on retirees and their families amid the difficult living conditions they have been facing.
The move follows earlier measures announced by the Syrian Ministry of Finance in March to resume procedures for pensions that had been suspended for security reasons, including those of civilian and military retirees.
