The Internal Security Forces in Latakia province, in cooperation with the Counterterrorism Branch, announced the arrest of nine pilots allegedly involved in committing war crimes against the Syrian people.
In a statement on Thursday, September 10, the Internal Security Forces, citing the province’s Internal Security Commander Abdulaziz al-Ahmad, said the operation followed monitoring, surveillance, information gathering, and investigations, which resulted in a series of specialized and carefully coordinated security operations.
Al-Ahmad identified those arrested as Brigadier General Manhal Anwar Saleh, Brigadier General Sami Ibrahim Mahmoud, Brigadier General Ghiyath Ali al-Rahiya, Colonel Issa Izzaddin Khadour, Colonel Marwan Salah Nafesh, Colonel Bashar Samir Wannous, Lieutenant Colonel Ayham Hamza Alia, Captain Ayham Ahmad Dawoud, and Captain Ammar Issa Junaidi.
Al-Ahmad said the individuals had participated in crimes and violations against the Syrian people in several provinces, exploiting their military positions and expertise in fighter and helicopter aviation. He said their actions included bombardments and attacks that resulted in large numbers of casualties, both killed and wounded, and caused extensive damage to cities and towns, in addition to the displacement of residents and the destruction of homes, facilities and civilian infrastructure.
He stressed that their arrest is part of ongoing efforts to pursue anyone proven responsible for committing crimes against Syrians and refer them to the competent judiciary, so that each person receives their fair punishment.
