Nechirvan Barzani on September Revolution Anniversary: Unity Is Guarantee of Kurdistan Region’s Future

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani has stressed the importance of unity and strengthening cooperation and harmony among political forces and parties, emphasizing that this is the way to protect the federal system and the entity of the Kurdistan Region, safeguard constitutional rights, and overcome challenges.

Barzani made the remarks in a statement issued on Friday, September 11, 2026, marking the 65th anniversary of the September Revolution led by the late Mustafa Barzani, describing the revolution as a landmark in the history of the liberation movement of the people of Kurdistan.

In his statement, the Kurdistan Region president commemorated the late Mustafa Barzani, the leader of the revolution and the liberation movement of the people of Kurdistan, as well as the fighters and Peshmerga who took part in the revolution. He paid tribute to the souls of the martyrs and saluted their families and relatives, as well as the Peshmerga and veteran fighters. He said the September Revolution began during a difficult and critical period, amid the denial of the existence and rights of the people of Kurdistan, and contributed to strengthening national awareness and Kurdish national identity.

Barzani added that by bringing together different religious and ethnic communities in Kurdistan, the revolution became a unified force and succeeded in bringing the just voice of the people of Kurdistan’s liberation struggle to the world.

It also laid the foundations for subsequent official recognition and constitutional gains.

Lessons of the September Revolution Reflecting on the lessons of the revolution, Nechirvan Barzani stressed the importance of upholding the values of unity, harmony, peaceful coexistence, and acceptance of others, noting that the revolution’s success and continuation were the result of unity and solidarity.

The Kurdistan Region president stressed that the current phase requires strengthening the spirit of cooperation and harmony among all political forces and parties in order to protect the federal system and the entity of the Kurdistan Region and safeguard constitutional rights, paving the way for a more stable and prosperous future for coming generations.
